About Me
My name is Sophie Fauveau, I am a French National living in Portland Oregon since 2000 and as strange as it might sound, I became a style coach by “popular demand” paired with an undeniable passion for enhancing beauty in people and interiors.
I was born in Paris France in 1973 and lived in the south of France until 1997 when I moved to London, England to pursue a career in marketing and communications. After 3 years in London working in high-tech marketing I was relocated by my company to Portland, OR.
For the past 10 years I have enjoyed a “double life” as a marketing communication manager by day and a “Style Coach” to many of my friends and their friends and relatives in my spare time.
……But it all started a long long time ago …
I am the 3rd girl of 4 children. Early on, our mom gave each of us a monthly budget to purchase our own clothing. I learned from a very young age how to shop on a budget and utilize all the creativity I had to be unique and stylish. I shopped mostly in vintage stores to find unique items and often wore my own creations. In high school and throughout college, girls were following styles I created and asking for fashion advice.
In my early twenties when I moved to London I started buying clothes in vintage stores and yard sales again. Quickly, friends, acquaintances and colleagues came to me offering to buy my precious finds.
People came to me for style advice in the office and would often want me to go shopping with them…or even for them! I was given allowances by ladies in the office to find items for them in flea markets and vintage stores. I had closets full of clothes and let my friends borrow items of clothing and accessories for special events, which is something I still enjoy doing!
When I moved to the US 6 years ago, the same phenomenon recurred…Ladies who I barely knew started coming to me for fashion advice and to get feedback on their style, so I continued helping people look good! Read testimonials from some of my clients.
Then In 2002 I bought my first house (a lovely 1890 Victorian) which I remodeled entirely in 2006, gutting it and adding a second floor!
Throughout the project I was the designer and partially my own architect too. I designed everything from the layout of the house to the kitchen cabinets and walk-in closet. I chose the materials, colors and styles for every inch of the house.
Shortly after I completed the remodel, I got requests to help other people with their own interior designs.
Once finished, in January 2006, our house caught the eye of Oregon Home magazine who decided to do a 6 page feature on it and put it on the front cover of their May/June 2006 issue. After this article appeared in the stores, strangers started requesting my help and dozens of them encouraged me to go into the styling business.
In a recent show on television where our house was featured, the editor of Oregon Home said, "I think its unusual to see [someone] who has no design background, who didn't go to architectural school, who has a pure sense of style!"
In July of 2006 I won a national remodeling contest for what we had done with our kitchen remodel – Our remodel was the winner among thousands of entries.
After realizing how much fulfillment and excitement I felt from enhancing beauty in people and interiors, I decided to do this professionally.
I call myself a Personal Style Coach as my goal is to guide people to uncover their own style. I have an unconventional background, fresh and real ideas untainted by rules and theories taught from books. At the same time, you can be assured that I am serious, committed and reliable when I work with you.
I stay current on industry trends and new products by reading style publications and magazines. I am regularly scouting department stores, shops and boutiques to know where to find great items. I want to stay informed on latest trends and fashions but I do not let it dictate OUR style...
